In an intriguing conversation during the promotion of his new film Vinvas, veteran Bollywood actor Nana Patekar shared that he was replaced by Jackie Shroff in the 1989 blockbuster Parinda. The actor, who was initially cast as Anil Kapoor’s elder brother in the film, explained that he had even rehearsed for the role before the change occurred.

Nana acknowledged that the shift happened due to Anil Kapoor’s suggestion, and despite the initial setback, he expressed gratitude for the change, as it later led to his iconic role as Anna in Agni Sakshi. Anil Kapoor, who has also been involved in the casting process from the beginning, clarified that the decision was ultimately the director’s, but he felt Jackie Shroff was better suited for the part of the elder brother.

In a candid revelation, Nana Patekar admitted that he harbored some resentment toward Anil Kapoor after the incident and chose not to work with him for the next 19 years. Their reunion only came in Welcome, a popular 2007 comedy film.

Parinda, directed by Vidhu Vinod Chopra, is considered a milestone in Indian cinema, known for its realistic portrayal of urban life and its impactful narrative. The film won several awards, including the National Film Award for Best Supporting Actor, which Nana Patekar received for his stellar performance.
